This 50 feet-long trimaran, launched in 1990, is, because of its strength and its security, built for this race. Designed by Nigel Irens, it has been inspired by the very famous Fujicolor. Since, its launching in 1990, it has taken advantage of the technology ‘s improvement.
Considered as the best 50 feet-long boat in the world, this trimaran, built in the most sophisticated techniques (epoxy, fibre glass, carbon), has won most of the races it has been involved in, and has crossed 18 times the Atlantic Ocean. It constitutes the model that has been used as a basis in order to develop the 50 feet-long Class. This exceptional boat permitted to its skipper, amateur, to rank in 1992 and in 2000, 8th in the world professional open sea ranking.
« Each transat in solo is a cure that rejuvenate »
Breton in blood and heart, Hervé Cléris is one of these conqueror who fears nothing and who is attracted by difficulty. Orthodontist, he has been travelling through the oceans worldwide for the last 20 years. As skipper, he is the symbol of this 50 feet-long boat Class (according to his honours list and his stability in this category). He symbolizes the persistence and a certain idea of open sea racing. Human and redoubtable persistence. Here is the portrait of a man who is once again impatient to sail over the oceans:
“Imaginary or concrete travel. To leave, it is magic. Like the trip I made to the Antarctic or to the Spitzberg Islands, I am more and more attracted by extreme region. I have always dreamed, for example, about the glacial region. I am attracted by places where the human being has never been before.
