Bob Escoffier

Born on May 20th 1940 (56 years old), he has 2 kids and lives in Saint Malo (France).

Professional skipper, Bob has always been sailing, cumulating thousands and thousands of nautical miles of experience on his Etoile Marine Croisières’ Boats. “He never sits!” says Françoise Guézénec, his ladyfriend. “He is full of resources and generosity. He always has ideas and projects. While he could rest a little when the charter season is over, he keeps on sailing.”

His passion for the sea and his fancy for the défi, pushed him to participate to the 1994 edition of La Route du Rhum, the most important transat in solo. Not as professional skipper, but as skipper of Etoile Molène, a 25m long “dundee thonier” from his own float. And he was alone on this very big boat! He already had the taste for adventure. He then raced the 1998 edition of La Route du Rhum on the 60 feet-long multi-hull, Adecco Etoile Filante, and ranked 23rd in the overall ranking.

He then raced the 2001 edition of the Transat Jacques Vabre on the 50 feet-long Adecco Etoile Horizon with a long time companion, Christian MACE. After 6 days of race, Bob has to renounce because of a fall onboard. He got hospitalized and was taken back to France. But he continued the adventure on the same boat for the last edition of La Route du Rhum. After 8 days of race, he was solicited by Race Committee in order to give assistance to Karine Fauconnier who was in perdition on her multi-hull boat in a tempest near the Island of Madeira. He got the honours from his companions for his lucidity and his experience, and finally ranked 6th on the finishing line in Pointe-à-Pitre. Three years ago he ranked 12th at the 2003 edition of the Transat Jacques Vabre with Adecco boat, a 60 feet-long old generation boat (ex-Fujicolor skipped by Loïc PEYRON, and ex-Aigle skipped by Jean MAUREL). On this race, his daughter Servane was his co-skipper. “My father has such a strong passion for the sea, that this passion is growing inside of me everyday”. There is no doubt on the fact that we will hear more about this man!
